Playa Las Ballenas is a beautiful, grand, and clean beach. Fantastic for families! It starts right after the famous fisherman's village, where you find many fine restaurants, and ends with an enchanting river. With very few waves, Las Ballenas is safe for kids to swim and play on the beach. It is also a perfect area to snorkel. Our favorite spot to snorkel is at the end of Las Ballenas, on the left looking at the ocean, you'll find plenty of beautiful corals and tropical fishes.

Las Ballenas is well known by cyclists and runners enjoying the road along its beach to exercise. Others enjoy this wide beach to do aerobics yoga and meditation sessions feet in the sand. In the middle, we find fishermen ready to take it to the islands from where the name of the beach comes from. And when the wind is right, we are lucky to see some kite surfers enjoying themselves on the water.

Then there is a reef that makes it a good place for snorkeling, our favorite spot is at the very end of the beach. There, a small sailing club offers equipment for rent such as sailboats canoes kayaks, and paddleboards. Las Ballenas is also famous for its many beach restaurants and bars where you enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner with drinks.

There is also a little sailing school where you can rent sailboats and kayaks to discover the surrounding beaches and create your own mini-adventure.

The street along the beach of Las Ballenas is a dead end, only people living, visiting, or working there are driving which makes it very quiet. Another reason why Las Ballenas is cherished by expatriates who've been living here for many years is its direct access to the town of Las Terrenas. Some other beaches like Playa Popy also offer the same convenience.

Perhaps its most distinctive trait is the many bars and restaurants spread along the beach, where food and drinks can be enjoyed feet in the sand. It is also one of the largest beaches of Las Terrenas, offering plenty of space for long chairs to lay comfortably or even play a beach volley game with friends. Everyone seems to find what they’re looking for until walking along the water to enjoy the gorgeous views and sunset

Communities of Las Ballenas

In addition to the many villas, we find several condominiums and community steps from the beach. This residential area is filled with luxury properties in small size hotels or B&Bs.

Bonita Village

A large community of condos and villas located at the very end of Las Ballenas beach, in a very quiet and secluded area because the road results in a dead end with no through traffic.
